───────────═══════ DIR2SF Directory List Converter ═══════───────────
───────═══════════ Copyright 1993 by Kevin Cummins ═══════════───────
Version 1.0
What does DIR2SF do?
─────────────────────┘
It will convert PCBOARD or FILES.BBS file listings to the Spitfire one-line
format. It can optionally add a header at the top of the converted listing,
with a CD name, File area number, and description.
The original file names can be retained if you are using a door
program, or can be renamed to SFFILES.(X) for use as SF file area
listings directly accessible thru Spitfire.
Why write this?
────────────────┘
Well, after adding a CD-ROM to my BBS, I found that being able to convert
these file lists was a necessity. I tried a couple other utilities that did
conversions, but one would not remove the "|" character. You could do it
manually or with a search/replace, but it was still awkward.
Another one did not accurately do the conversion to the actual Spitfire
one-line format, although it advertised itself to. So, to save myself a
bunch of time and headache, I wrote this to do it the way *I* wanted it
done. And, I thought I might as well share it with anyone else who might
have similar needs.
Requirements & Notes for Successful Operation:
────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Files must be named DIR1, DIR2, DIR3, etc. in sequential order, and must
start with DIR1. If a file is missing in the middle, then all successive
files will not be processed. DIR2SF is written to handle up to 100 file
areas per run. If you find this needs to be increased, please drop me a
note.
A 'DIR<X>' file must exist for the program to execute. It looks for DIR1,
which if missing causes the program to abort. Otherwise, execution
continues until there is a break in the sequence of DIR<X> files.
DIR2SF must either be in the same directory as the files to process, or be
in the DOS path.
DIR2SF does NOT create any backup files! If you want a backup, make one
before running DIR2SF! Since these are CD-ROM lists, you should have
another copy on there anyway, right?
Installation & Usage:
──────────────────────┘
Copy DIR2SF to either a location in your DOS path, or to the directory
where your DIR<X> files will be found. At the DOS prompt, simply enter
DIR2SF.
You will first be presented with the option to use the built-in header
function. If you respond with <Y>es, then you will be prompted for the name
of the CD that you are processing lists for. You will only have to enter
this information once, as it is automatically entered for you for each
list.
You will then be prompted whether to rename the DIR<X> files to
SFFILES.<X>. Please note that the number given to each SFFILES.<X> file
does NOT have to correspond to the number of the DIR<X> file. If you choose
to use the rename function, you will be prompted for the directory number
of each file as it is processed.
If you have chosen either of the two above mentioned options, processing
will continue until all DIR<X> files have been processed, prompting you for
the required information for each area.
If you do not choose the header or rename options, then DIR2SF
automatically processes all DIR<X> files without your interaction.
I guess that's about all I can tell you. Pretty simple, so copy a couple
test files somewhere and make a test run if you wish.
Registration:
──────────────┘
DIR2SF does not require any registration or fees. (if you really wanted to
send a couple bucks, I guess that would be OK....:) You may distribute it
freely in it's unmodified form, and use it as you see fit.
